The Point Leo Holiday House Kitchen

Honey oak, a fluorescent batten and a floor that had seen thirty summers — reworked into an island kitchen without moving a wall.

The job
A 1980s kitchen in a house used hard every summer: raised-panel oak doors, a laminate benchtop worn through at the sink, mosaic splashback tile, and one fluorescent batten that made the whole room read yellow at any hour.
What we did
New shaker joinery in a deep green, a stone-look benchtop and full-height splashback, a new island with seating on the dining side, engineered oak flooring through the kitchen and meals area, undercabinet lighting and pendants over the island. The existing oven, window and doorway all stayed where they were.
Timeline
Ten weeks on site, as part of a wider whole-house scope
What it cost
Kitchens typically $20,000–$60,000
The result
The family's own table and chairs went straight back where they had always been — and the room around them stopped looking like the 1980s. The kitchen was one part of a $120,000 fixed-price scope that also covered the primary bathroom, a bedroom conversion, structural repairs and the timber floors.
